Lunch and refuelling stop on our way to Ankara. There was some lovely scenery on the way. We were traveling through the plains of Anatolia. Wide open expanses with fields of wheat and a lush green plantations that could be sweet corn but I couldn’t get close enough to confirm.
We were mystified by the Torku ‘trees’. What were they for? What did it all mean? You have to understand that these signs were all along the route. When we had an Internet connection we turned to ‘Google’ and looked up the company and the phrase written on the signs. We were delighted to discover that the company Torku was sponsoring tree planting along the road to counteract the effect of deforestation in parts of Turkey. In particular due to the cultivation of sugar beet. The report (link below) is part of the plan. We noticed throughout our trip how important parks and flowers are to the Turkish people.
