Count down to departure has begun. Getting very excited (and slightly scared) as we nearly finish all the packing. We have one booking for the summer so it has to be empty. It’s all in the lockable cupboards in the bedroom and, with the bikes gone, in the shed! All this lot will all eventually be packed in cases and put in the car. It WILL. I hope! Because we are going to be living in France for a couple of months I’m taking my slow cooker and my knives, plus a few other essentials I can’t be a MasterChef without. I can see a few invention tests on the horizon. Looking forward to checking out the local markets.
BUT. Before we get to that stage we first have to drive through Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. Due diligence has been done. We have International Driving Licences, Visa’s, passports and know the car insurance and equipment requirements for each country. The AA website is a great help. So today I have purchased a fire extinguisher, 2 more high viz jackets (one for each seat, not each person in some countries) and another hazard warning triangle. In some ways I would quite like to be stopped so I can show off!!
The only thing we haven’t managed to sort is breakdown cover. Only the UK have comprehensive breakdown cover and you can’t get it if you don’t live there! So lets hope we don’t break down. We tried ADAC but we haven’t heard back. They provide cover (we think) but as they didn’t respond we’ve decided to be intrepid. AND had the car fully serviced and we are carrying a spare wheel, just in case. 🙂
Right chaps, back to the packing!
